Chimborazo
My last geography site in Ecuador is Chimborazo! Chimborazo is located in the southern middle part of Ecuador, approximately 150 kilometers southwest of Quito. Chimborazo is not a city, or a lake, but instead, a massive dormant volcano reaching heights of over 6,000 meters tall, with a 78 mile circumference as well as a 30 mile diameter. Chimborazo is located in the Cordillera Occidental rane of the Andes. Fun Fact: Since Chimborazo is so close to the equator, it is the closest point to the sun on earth! The last time it erupted was around 550 AD. It is considered one of the most difficult, yet popular, peaks to climb in Ecuador due to extreme altitude and glacier travel. Make sure when you climb to bring food, water, a tent and oxygen, as the altitude causes 46-50% less oxygen than at sea level. Overall, Chimborazo is a wild dormant volcano, a beautiful landmark and a dangerous climb.
