Welcome to the República del Ecuador also known as Ecuador by itself. Ecuador is located western South America, bordering the pacific ocean at the equator between Columbia and Peru. Ecuador's capital is Quito, which is north of the middle of Ecuador. The estimated population of Ecuador is 16,904,867. Including the Galapagos Islands, which are famous for the discovery of evolution by Charles Darwin, the total area of Ecuador is 283,561 square kilometers. The total land area is 276,841 square kilometers while the total area of water is 6,720 square kilometers. A comparison of the size of Ecuador is that it's only a little bit smaller than Nevada.
